Air-Flow teeth cleaning

What is Air-Flow teeth cleaning?

“Air-Flow” cleaning is a pressurised powder wash that removes lighter deposits and the dark stains that form on teeth over time. The teeth are cleaned without touching the tooth surface directly with any metal instrument. Compressed air, water and a special powder are used, which also clean hard-to-reach areas. If necessary, and in consultation with the patient, ultrasonic cleaning is used to remove heavier deposits, and tartar in hard-to-reach areas is removed with special instruments.

When should you have Air-Flow cleaning?

  • Your teeth have become evenly darker or yellowish.
  • Your teeth have dark brown stains here and there, and you have changed your toothbrush and toothpaste, but nothing helps.
  • You wear braces or another orthodontic appliance, which makes it difficult to clean your teeth.
  • Your mouth feels “furry” an hour and a half to two hours after brushing.
  • Plaque disclosing tablets from the pharmacy, which stain plaque and deposits a bright colour, show that you can no longer remove them yourself with home methods.
  • A simple test: suck air in through your lower teeth – if the air does not come through, the spaces between your teeth are clogged with deposits and you need a cleaning.
  • Once a year as prevention, so that heavier deposits and tartar do not form.
  • For patients without gum problems, the procedure is painless, comfortable and safe, and does not damage the tooth enamel.
