What should you consider with veneers?
Veneers are bonded to the teeth with a thin, transparent layer of cement.
- You should definitely avoid activities that put heavy pressure on the teeth without protection – for example, holding a scuba regulator in your mouth or sports with a risk of injury.
- Bruxism (teeth grinding) should also be taken into account.
- Reacting to stressful situations by clenching your teeth hard is also a risk.
- Ceramics can break.
Mouthguards can be used at night or during sports to protect the work from unconscious movements.
As a rule, however, a veneer breaks in the same situations in which your own tooth would have broken.
Veneers are very durable, and unless other colour changes of the teeth or changes in the surrounding tissues occur over the decades, they do not need to be replaced.
